Pump Systems
The pump is the heart of your well. Without it, the best well is useless. We carry a complete line of Goulds pumps to match to any system. ![]() Pumps There are two main types of pumps for household use. Submersible pumps are installed in the well and pump water to the surface and then on to the pressure tank. Jet pumps are installed above ground and draw water to the surface through a vacuum process. Jet pump systems are typically used only in shallow well and cistern applications. Pressure Tanks The pressure tank is a reservoir that maintains a preset air charge and gives the pump a cushion to build pressure against. The tank also stores a small amount of water that is pushed out by the preset air charge when water is called for in the home or outside. This allows you to use your water without the pump coming on every time you turn on a sink or flush a toilet. After most of the water is pushed out of the tank, the pressure switch turns the pump back on long enough to rebuild the pressure in the tank. Pressure Switches The pressure switch is a mechanical device that turns the pump on and off according to the desired pressure setting. Typically that pressure setting might be 40 to 60 P.S.I.. The switch turns the pump on at 40 P.S.I. and then turns the pump off when the pressure reaches 60 P.S.I.. Constant Pressure / Variable Frequency Drives These new systems can offer several advantages over conventional systems including energy efficiency and longer pump life span.
